Broken bones result from blunt force trauma sufficient enough to cause fractures. Broken bones, depending on the severity of the fracture, location of the breakage, and other rehabilitation factors (such as whether the bone is properly isolated and casted) often heal in a period of 3-6 months.
Stable fractures of the bone are characterized by a break in the bone where the pieces are still aligned and in place, physiologically. Open compound fractures are more serious, and the bone may have penetrated through the skin and is easily visible. Other forms of fracture include transverse and oblique fractures, which describe the fracture patterns of the bone as either horizontal or angled, respectively. A more difficult bone fracture to treat is a comminuted fracture, where the bone has shattered into multiple (more than three) pieces.
Treatment of broken bones is accomplished through immobilization by putting the extremity or bone in a cast. For extremely serious injuries, a doctor may use external or internal fixation methods; or in other words using metal pins, rods, and screws to fasten the broken bones together. Ultimately, it takes time for bones to heal on their own and the important matter is isolating and immobilizing the affected area to allow the body to recover.
Because broken bones are extremely painful and will cause localized weakness and immobilization of an affected area (such as the leg), the injured victim may be left with limited mobility and options during your healing phase. As a result, even mundane day to day tasks may become a lengthy and arduous chore. For these reasons, we believe that if you have suffered a broken bone injury, that it is best to call an experienced legal team to fight for your legal rights to ensure you receive all available accident benefits including income replacement benefits and nursing and personal support while your claim is being litigated. As legal experts with over 30 years of experience in assisting accident victims, we can help you navigate your insurance claims and fight for your rights.
